YXY Ships First 15,000 Units of YPM20 Series IP68 USB 3.0 Panel-Mount Cables
YXY Electronics completed final packaging and outgoing quality control on the first production run of its YPM20 Series flush panel-mount USB 3.0 pass-through cables on , with the first 4,200 units already loaded on consolidating pallets for Hamburg and Long Beach, factory logistics confirmed this week. The line was tooled in response to six consecutive months of OEM return requests from automotive dash, marine helm and outdoor cabinet installers who were being forced to drill USB access holes and then seal them with silicone on finished enclosures. Distributor stock opens at MOQ 10 at US$ 2.07 per unit with a five-working-day dispatch promise on 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 m pigtails.
The YPM20 Series solves the installer’s problem by delivering the port and pigtail as one finished, overmoulded sub-assembly: installers punch a single Ø20.0 mm round hole, drop the threaded barrel through the panel face, tighten a rear PA66 locknut against a silicone compression O-ring, and plug the pre-terminated pigtail into the host. Soldering, splicing, adhesive sealant and dash trim disassembly — the four most documented failure modes in field return data for competing recessed USB boxes — are eliminated entirely.
Why a threaded USB, not a dash hole
Installer feedback collected over the 2026 spring trade show cycle pointed to a single recurring problem: every sealed enclosure that required a USB port for firmware uploads, USB-A media playback or telematics dongles was being hand-finished on site, with wildly inconsistent IP retention. A 15-job audit supplied by one Dutch marine integrator showed 11 of 15 silicone-sealed USB cable penetrations had failed a 24-hour freshwater dunk test on commissioning, with failures traced to vibration-worn cable cladding and trapped-air gaps in the sealant fillet.
The YPM20 Series moves the sealing point to the panel face itself, not the cable jacket — a compression O-ring on the M20-thread barrel delivers IP68, confirmed in a 30-minute 1.5 m submersion cycle during lot acceptance. The rear locknut is the only other mechanical element, and it is assembled at the factory to a calibrated torque so that the O-ring is compressed to its datasheet gasket set without installer guesswork.

How the YPM20 line is built
Barrels are CNC-machined from brass rod and plated to 30 µinch (0.76 µm) gold over a 100 µinch nickel underplate on the contact side, with a black matte epoxy powder coat on the exposed outer flange so the part does not telegraph fingerprint grease on a clean dashboard install. The USB 3.0 Type-A female receptacle is overmoulded directly to the barrel using a two-stage engineering plastic press, with a secondary ultrasonic weld seam at the back of the overmoulding that locks out capillary moisture — a protection path independent of the panel O-ring, so even if an installer forgets the locknut and leaves the part loose, the connector itself still cannot wick water in.
USB 3.0 signalling integrity is verified on a DCM3500 time-domain reflectometer at cable final test, with insertion loss held below 5.8 dB at 2.5 GHz for the 1.0 m pigtail variant. The 9-pin contact strip uses phosphor bronze fingers on both sides so that standard USB thumb drives, telematics dongles and consumer hubs all seat correctly without the side-slop that causes USB 2.0 fallback on poorly toleranced panel boxes.
Three channels ordering now
Backlog at close of business Monday split cleanly across three verticals, the company’s channel desk confirmed. Automotive HMI integrators took 42 % of the first run, with 0.30 m pigtail variants preferred for tight behind-dash routing on electric light commercial vehicles. Marine electronics installers accounted for 31 %, almost exclusively ordering the 1.0 m pigtail for below-deck runs to multifunction displays and VHF black boxes, with black-anodised flange finish requested on every line item. The remaining 27 % was a mix of NEMA-enclosure fabricators, outdoor digital signage builders and three telecommunications tower outfits pulling USB alarm dongles through weather-sealed base-station cabinets.

Can I use this behind a hot engine bay, or does the TPU jacket soften?
The YPM20 cable jacket is extruded 95 Shore A thermoplastic polyurethane, not PVC. Continuous service rating is −40 °C to +105 °C per the UL94-V0 housing datasheet; short-term under-bonnet soak peaks at 120 °C for 2 h cycles on the production stress-report. The overmoulding bond to the barrel does not delaminate below the PA66 glass-transition point.
Is the rear pigtail field-replaceable if a machine operator cuts it during install?
No — the pigtail exit is ultrasonic-welded and epoxy-backfilled as part of the IP68 seal train, so it cannot be cut and re-terminated in the field without breaking the seal. Stock spare cables in the needed length before a job; replacement units under warranty are shipped from the finished-goods buffer with a 5-day DHL lane.
How do I prep a 5 mm stainless steel panel vs. a 3 mm ABS dash?
Same Ø20.0 mm H8 drill for both, but on steel panels use a de-burring reamer followed by a 0.1 mm chamfer on the hole edge so the O-ring does not nick on the down stroke during first seating. A nylon washer (supplied in custom lots ≥ 500, available separately at line item) is recommended under the locknut on painted or powder-coated panels to prevent torque scuffing of the panel finish.
Are 3D STEP and DWG mechanical drawings available for integration?
Yes. STEP AP214, SolidWorks SLDPRT, DXF 2D panel cut-out and IGES files are delivered by email within 1 business hour after submitting a request to waheed@yxydz.com. What ships next — roadmap
Three variants are already on the prototype bench and scheduled for pilot lot in October 2026: a USB-C receptacle with identical M20 barrel form factor (for 2027 EV centre-stack programmes already in RFQ), a zinc-alloy barrel with bright nickel plating for food-and-beverage stainless panels, and an IP69K-rated high-pressure-wash version with a secondary silicone cap retained on a lanyard. Existing YPM20 Series customers on blanket PO will be offered a direct cross at list parity when those variants pass EOL qualification.
